82nd street temporarily close

October 9, 2024

Nickel Plate Trail construction to temporarily close 65th, 82nd streets

INDIANAPOLIS – Upcoming work on the Nickel Plate Trail will result in two short-term closures along the construction path on the city’s northeast side.

East 65th Street is expected to close on Oct. 14 and is expected to remain closed for up to 14 days.

East 82nd Street is expected to close on Oct. 15 and is expected to remain closed for up to 12 days.

Local access will be maintained.

“We understand construction is disruptive, but we believe this will be a treasured public asset for generations to come,” Indy DPW Director Brandon Herget said. “This project will connect the State Fairgrounds, Fall Creek, Monon Trail, Castleton and Hamilton County. Overall, this will make our infrastructure more accessible, strengthen our community, and improve transportation for Indianapolis residents and visitors.”

Detour Details:

  • 65th Street:
  • If you’re heading east, you’ll be redirected south on Allisonville Road, then east on 62nd Street, and north on Binford Boulevard, back to 65th Street.
  • Westbound traffic will go south on Binford Boulevard, west on 62nd Street, and then north on Allisonville Road, returning to 65th Street.
  • 82nd Street:
  • Eastbound traffic will be detoured south on Allisonville Road, east on 75th Street, and north on Shadeland Avenue, ending back at 82nd Street.
  • Westbound drivers will be rerouted south on Shadeland Avenue, west on 75th Street, and then north on Allisonville Road, back to 82nd Street.

The $14.9 million project broke ground in late 2023 and is expected to remain in construction until mid-2025, adding nine miles of trail to the city’s network. The project includes the development of multi-use spur connections at 62nd Street east of Eastwood Middle School and on 86th Street west of Sahm Park, enhancing connectivity and accessibility across the region.

When complete, the Nickel Plate Trail will link to the Midland Trace and Monon trails, creating a 41-mile loop that stretches across several counties.

Missing Cat

Hi neighbor!

Do you or a family member remember the last time they saw Tony? He lives with Chad and his family at 9145 Andiron Way. Tony has been missing for a month or so. He’s gone missing for a couple days before but never this long.

He’s a friendly big “orange” Tabby with the left ear tipped to indicate he was a feral cat that had been neutered and vaccinated.

Being a friendly outdoor cat may also lead someone to believe that he needed a home. Totally understandable. If this is the case, please let Chad know.

Tony has lived here for about a year. He’s the new kid on the block. This sometimes got him in trouble with the other cats.

Sick and injured cats will instinctively hide to heal. Underneath and inside sheds are perfect places for them to go. If you have a shed, please take a look.

Please contact us for Chad’s information to share any information, good or bad.

Thank you very much!

Do Your Duty, Pick Up Your Dog’s Duty

Hello neighbors!

Well, since walking a dog is a normal occurrence and with that typically they’ll leave deposits along the route. The vast majority of dog walkers will bring along plastic grocery bags to pick up their dog’s deposits. Then they’ll carry that bag home and place it in their own trash bin.

Unfortunately, there are some dog walkers that don’t give a duty and let their dogs drop their deposits anywhere they wish and continue with their walk. Some will pick up their dog’s deposit with a bag and leave it on the sidewalk or drop it in someone else’s trash can or recycle can.

If you’re one of these dog walkers that don’t give a duty, please start doing so. You’re not being a good neighbor and it is your responsibility to take care of your dog’s deposits.

So please, put those non-recyclable plastic grocery sacks to good use and throw them away in your own trash cans.

Thank you very much!

P.S. A lot of people have security cameras and I’m sure you probably wouldn’t like to be the next viral sensation to hit Nextdoor.

Hearthstone HOA Board Needs You

Hello neighbors!

Every two years at our annual neighborhood meeting, members of the HOA vote on nominees for the five to nine Board of Directors. It’s that time and we’re looking for nominees. No experience is needed to qualify. You just need to be an owner or renter in Hearthstone and not owe dues.

The primary responsibility of the Board of Directors is to help manage contracts for snow removal and maintenance of the easements and entrances. Also provide input for changes to our Bylaws, help plan social events, and other issues that preserve and enhance our neighborhood. Click here for moire details on the duties and responsibilities under ARTICLE III of the Board of Directors.

The neighborhood meeting isn’t when we elect Officers of the Board of Directors such as President, Secretary and Treasurer. Once the Directors are elected they will meet at a later time to decide who will be the Officers for the HOA. So if you don’t want to be an officer, you don’t have to be but it’s highly encouraged. Especially since the majority of current Board and its Officers have been serving for more than 8 years.

Unfortunately and understandably, Officers had to step down due to moving or busy with life. I am currently filling those gaps and can really use some help.

So Let me know by Friday, September 27th if you want to be a member of the Board of Directors and/or if you’re willing to be an officer, You don’t have to be an officer but it would be helpful.

Best wishes
